As a process and quality improvement consultant for nearly 20 years, I have significant experience in existing process improvement methods and strategies. I have conducted nearly 70 process appraisals over the past 15 years, and am a qualified lead appraiser for CMMI V1.2 and the associated SCAMPI method. Operational models (policy, process and procedure descriptions, standards and forms) and system dynamic models (causal loop diagrams and computer models) do not have to be inconsistent! These two forms of models go hand-in-hand when constructed properly. From a behavioral point of view, operational models decribe HOW the system operates, while system dynamic models describe WHY the system behaves as it does. Both of these are important. By "properly constructed" I mean that it is critical that operational models consider important feedback within and across systems. Unfortunately, all too often, these mechanisms are left out. We can help you provide a clear, integrated view of how to create models that address both aspects of this.
